Discussion & Analysis of Business & Financial performance with future Business Prospects of Bank of India Ltd:
Bank of India (BoI), a prominent public sector bank, has demonstrated significant financial growth in recent quarters, underpinned by robust earnings, improved asset quality, and strategic expansion across key lending segments.
Current Business & Financial Performance
In the third quarter of FY25 (Q3FY25), BoI reported a net profit of ₹2,517 crore, marking a 35% year-on-year (YoY) increase from ₹1,870 crore in Q3FY24. This growth was driven by an 11% YoY rise in Net Interest Income (NII) to ₹6,070 crore and a 49% YoY surge in non-interest income to ₹2,518 crore, attributed to higher treasury gains and recoveries from written-off accounts.
Asset quality has improved notably, with gross Non-Performing Assets (NPAs) declining to 4.41% of gross advances as of September 2024, down from 5.84% a year earlier. Net NPAs also decreased to 0.94% from 1.54% in the same period. The Provision Coverage Ratio (PCR), including written-off accounts, enhanced to 92.22%, reflecting a stronger buffer against potential credit losses.
BoI’s global business expanded, with total advances growing by 14.51% YoY to ₹6.21 trillion and global deposits increasing by 10.15% YoY to ₹7.75 trillion as of September 2024. Retail advances saw a robust 21.61% YoY growth, reaching ₹1.21 trillion, while agriculture and MSME credits grew by 21.46% and 15.42% YoY, respectively.
Future Business Prospects
Looking ahead, BoI has set ambitious targets, projecting a 14% credit growth and a 13% deposit growth for FY25. The bank has a strong pipeline of sanctioned loans worth ₹70,000 crore across corporate, retail, agriculture, and MSME segments, which is expected to support this growth trajectory.
To fund the anticipated credit expansion, BoI plans to raise ₹5,000 crore through infrastructure bonds and ₹2,500 crore via Tier-I bonds in the second half of FY25. The bank’s capital adequacy remains robust, with a Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) of 16.63% and a Common Equity Tier-I (CET-I) ratio of 13.52% as of September 2024, indicating a strong capital base to support future growth.
BoI is also focusing on enhancing its digital banking services, with significant increases in internet and mobile banking users, as well as UPI transactions. Additionally, the bank continues to support financial inclusion initiatives, opening over 2.23 lakh new PMJDY accounts during Q3FY25 and 10.49 lakh new accounts in the nine months ended December 2024.
In summary, Bank of India’s recent financial performance reflects strong profitability and improved asset quality. With strategic plans for capital raising, digital expansion, and a focus on key lending segments, the bank is well-positioned to sustain its growth momentum and enhance its market presence in the coming years.
